Winter Grey Pumpkin

Winter Grey is a stunning heirloom pumpkin with smooth, slate-grey skin and rich, orange flesh. Known for its excellent storage life and dense, sweet interior, it's perfect for roasting, soups, pies, and purees. Its unique colour makes it a striking addition to fall displays or market stands.

Plant Features:

  • Fruit size: 6–12 lbs (2.7–5.5 kg)

  • Shape: Round to slightly flattened

  • Colour: Silvery-grey skin with faint ribbing

  • Flesh: Deep orange, fine-grained and sweet

  • Vines: Vigorous and sprawling

  • Days to maturity: 100–110 days

Planting Instructions:

  • Direct Sow Outdoors: After last frost, when soil reaches at least 21°C (70°F)

  • Start Indoors: 2–4 weeks before last frost (use biodegradable pots)

  • Depth: 1 inch (2.5 cm)

  • Spacing: 3–5 feet (1–1.5 m) apart or in hills 4–6 feet (1.2–1.8 m) apart

  • Sunlight: Full sun

  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and fruiting

  • Soil: Well-drained, rich in compost or organic matter

  • Feeding: Benefit from balanced fertilizer or compost tea

Harvesting:
Harvest when the skin is firm and colour is fully developed. Leave a few inches of stem on the fruit to extend shelf life. Store in a cool, dry place up to 18 months.
