Borago officinalis var. alba
White Borage is a beautiful and uncommon form of traditional blue borage, featuring the same star-shaped flowers - but in soft, luminous white. With its silvery-green, fuzzy foliage and nectar-rich blooms, this fast-growing annual is a magnet for bees and beneficial insects.
Just like the blue form, both the leaves and flowers have a mild cucumber flavour and are edible, making White Borage a charming addition to herb gardens, pollinator patches, and edible landscapes.
Planting Instructions
Direct Sowing:
- Sow outdoors after last frost
- Plant seeds ½ inch deep
- Space plants 12–18 inches apart
- Keep soil evenly moist during germination
- Germination: 5–10 days
Borage develops a taproot and prefers not to be transplanted, so direct sowing is best.
Indoor Sowing:
- Start in pots 3–4 weeks before last frost
- Transplant carefully to avoid root disturbance
