The Sart Roloise tomato is a stunning variety known for its vibrant, stained-glass-like appearance and exceptional flavor. Developed by Belgian breeder Roland Boulanger from Sart Eustache, Belgium, this large beefsteak-type tomato averages 10–20 ounces per fruit. It is a cross between the 'White Wonder' and 'Baby Blue' tomatoes, resulting in fruits with deep indigo blue shoulders and a tropical, sweet, and fruity flavor profile with balanced acidity. Planting Instructions: Starting Seeds Indoors: Timing: Begin sowing seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last expected frost. Soil: Use a well-draining seed-starting mix. Sowing Depth: Plant seeds ¼ inch (6 mm) deep. Temperature: Maintain a soil temperature of 70–85°F (21–29°C) for optimal germination. Light: Provide ample light, either from a sunny window or grow lights, to ensure strong seedling growth. Transplanting Seedlings: Hardening Off: Gradually acclimate seedlings to outdoor conditions over a week. Spacing: Transplant seedlings 24 inches (60 cm) apart in rows spaced 3 feet (90 cm) apart. Soil: Choose fertile, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Sunlight: Ensure the location receives 6–8 hours of full sun daily. Plant Care: Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging. Mulching: Apply mulch to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Support: Use stakes or cages to support the heavy fruit-bearing branches. Fertilization: Feed plants with a balanced fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during the growing season. Harvesting: Maturity: Fruits typically mature in 85-90 days after transplanting. Indicators: Harvest when fruits are fully colored and yield slightly to gentle pressure. The Sart Roloise tomato is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a unique, flavorful, and visually striking addition to their tomato repertoire.
