Light Blue Delphinium is a tall, stately perennial known for its sky-blue to powder-blue flower spikes, which add elegance and vertical interest to any garden. Each spire is packed with delicate, butterfly-like blooms, attracting bees, butterflies, and garden admirers alike. These classic cottage garden favorites bloom in early to mid-summer and make exceptional cut flowers.

Planting Instructions:

Start Indoors (Recommended in Cold Climates):

  • Start 8–10 weeks before the last frost.

  • Sow seeds on the surface and lightly press into soil (they need light to germinate).

  • Keep soil temperature between 60–65°F (15–18°C).

  • Germination may take 14–21 days.

Transplanting Outdoors:

  • After all danger of frost has passed, transplant into a sunny or partially shaded location.

  • Space plants 18–24 inches (45–60 cm) apart.

  • Prefers rich, well-draining soil with added compost.

  • Stake tall varieties to prevent flopping.

Direct Sowing (Optional):

  • Sow in late spring or early fall directly in the garden.

  • Lightly cover seeds and keep moist until established.

Care Tips:

  • Water regularly, especially during dry spells.

  • Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowering.

  • Cut back after flowering to encourage a second flush.

  • Mulch to protect roots in colder zones.

Light blue delphiniums are a stunning statement in borders, cottage gardens, and floral arrangements.
