Honeyboat Delicata is a gourmet heirloom variety of winter squash known for its exceptionally sweet, rich, and nutty flavour — often compared to brown sugar and sweet potato. This variety features oblong, ribbed fruits with tan skin striped in dark green. Unlike many other winter squashes, the skin is thin and edible, making preparation easy. The vibrant orange flesh is smooth and ideal for roasting, stuffing, or baking.

  • Latin Name: Cucurbita pepo

  • Days to Maturity: 90–100 days

  • Fruit Size: 6–8 inches long

  • Vine Type: Trailing, requires space or trellis support

  • Storage: Excellent keeper – stores well into winter

Planting Instructions:

  1. Start Indoors (Recommended for Shorter Seasons):

    • Start seeds indoors 3–4 weeks before last frost.

    • Sow 1" deep in compost-rich seed-starting mix.

    • Transplant outdoors once soil is warm (above 15°C) and frost risk is gone.

  2. Direct Sow (After Last Frost):

    • Sow 1–2 seeds per hill, 1 inch deep.

    • Space hills 3–4 feet apart in rows 6 feet apart.

  3. Growing Tips:

    • Requires full sun and rich, well-drained soil.

    • Water consistently, avoiding overhead watering.

    • Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

  4. Harvest:

    • Harvest when skin is tough and cannot be pierced with a fingernail.

    • Cure in a warm, dry place for 10–14 days before storing.
